Presentation

My name is Emilie Dekoster. For nearly 20 years, I have been working as a clinical psychologist (approved by the Belgian Commission of Psychologists and complying with the psychologists' code of ethics). My experience is mainly centered around psychological support and the supervision of professionals. I work with adolescents as well as adults.
My practice is inspired by cognitive-behavioral, systemic and brief therapies. I regularly undertake further training in order to adjust my practice and respond as best as possible to requests. I also benefit from professional supervision.
“Act in such a way as to always broaden the field of possibilities” (René Thom).
You can consult me for the following difficulties and questions:
  • Anxiety, stress,
  • Depression,
  • Lack of self-confidence,
  • Intra-family and domestic violence,
  • Sexual violence (abuse, rape, …),
  • Trauma/experience of victimization (assault, accident, disaster…),
  • Bereavement,
  • Eating disorders and obesity,
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder,
  • Psychosocial risks related to work (stress, harassment, burnout, …),
  • Related to perinatality (high-risk pregnancy, baby blues, …),
  • Need for parental guidance,
  • Personal development,
  • Need to take stock,
  • Supervision of students and professionals
  • Distress,
Paying respectful attention to the person consulting me is essential for me in order to establish a relationship of trust. Consulting a psychologist is not an easy step. We take the time to lay down what is difficult and to take stock of resources and difficulties. This helps define work objectives and, consequently, to better understand the therapy. The sessions take place interactively, in complete confidentiality and respecting your pace. Conversation, small exercises, the use of specific tools and methods (e.g., relaxation, photolanguage, drawings, etc.) punctuate these sessions. Sometimes, a few sessions are enough to bring you the desired relief. In other situations, longer-term work will be more appropriate.
Support is envisaged as a collaboration in which you have the opportunity to be the actor of your own story and to situate it in your context.
“Nothing can be taught to others; we can only help them discover it for themselves” (Galileo).
