My mission
I am a psychotherapist who has undergone advanced training and is passionate about helping people find the kind of future or transformation that eludes them. My training is ongoing and will never end, as the field of psychotherapy is vast. I specialize in two psychotherapeutic approaches: solution-focused brief therapy and somatic experience. The first, which places emphasis on your aspirations, is characterized by a persistent focus on the goals you are aiming for.
This implies an orientation toward the present and toward the future that you are seeking. That said, your past is listened to with an empathic ear, and I am especially interested in all the clues it contains that point to your goals. The second approach involves an inward focus on the body to facilitate a surge of wisdom and creativity that lies hidden within you. In addition, I am trained in psychoanalysis and sometimes use my clients’ dreams in order to draw on their creative unconscious and bring out their strengths (and not their weaknesses!).
My target groups include, among others, adolescents and adults suffering from trauma, existential and identity issues, and troubling relationships. I also do therapy with couples.
The principles and convictions that underlie the way I work
There is nothing wrong with you that cannot be repaired by what is right with you. It’s all a matter of focus, particularly an optimistic focus made easier by your detailed descriptions of the kind of life you want to live and the kind of person you want to become. On a wave of hope, one of my clients, after achieving a challenging goal, exclaimed enthusiastically: “I didn’t know it was impossible, so I did it!”
A problem is a solution in the making.
This solution lies within you, not in me, and can be drawn out of you by your innate creativity, even if you are not aware of it. My task, in the manner of a midwife, is to help you give birth to your ability to design solutions through your creativity.
Wisdom resides in the tissues.
An inner focus on the body, which is a cornerstone of somatic experiencing, can release the energy and knowledge nestled in your viscera, transmitted there by your nervous system. This energy manifests as sensations, images, emotions, and movements, all of which can have a healing effect, especially when they are integrated with the thoughts and ideas generated by the solution-focused approach. Somatic experiencing is a method of choice for trauma resolution. I learned this method at the International Trauma-Healing Institute, based in Los Angeles.
I am not here to waste your time and your money.
I am with you to accomplish a mission, not to watch the clock. Therefore, if necessary, sessions last more than 60 minutes. Furthermore, I try to make the therapy as brief as possible, but you are the one who determines its length.
The power of creativity
The most important principle of my psychotherapeutic approach perhaps stems from my fascination with creativity, in which the play of imagination—yours and mine—is essential. In fact, I have thoroughly investigated the mechanisms of creativity as part of a doctoral program. This universal human attribute, which is not a fixed trait and can be developed throughout life (even at an advanced age), can have a transformative effect on our psychotherapy sessions. In particular, it can bring to life sessions that seem stuck and without a way out.
