Presentation
My name is Pierre-Olivier Charlier. I am a psychotherapist, Gestalt practitioner and father of two children.
An initial university education in journalism and communication in Brussels, more than thirty years of experience in socially oriented organizations, and multiple trainings where the human being is at the center of concerns have structured my career and determined the therapeutic approach I use to help the person in psychological distress who consults me to bring out their own way of being, the one that will make them “grow” and will allow them to give meaning to their difficulties and to emerge from their discomfort.
From the 1980s onwards, I felt the need to question myself through transactional analysis, psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy. This process was the first step before in-depth training in Gestalt therapy, which later led me to use it as a priority in my work with the people who consult me. For several years now, I have been refining this humanistic and experiential approach, which relies on the involvement of the therapist, focusing on *how* the experience is lived in the present, in the “here and now”, rather than on questioning the *why* of the past. I have complemented this way of supporting people with the practice of “sandplay”, which consists, with the help of sand and figurines, in giving form to what the person is experiencing, their emotions, sensations, and words/woes.
My grounding allows me to support women and men in distress or questioning. Since the beginning of my professional practice, I have gone regularly to supervision, I have been refining my training as a Gestalt therapist and I simply continue my life journey.
I receive clients in Hanzinne, where I offer individual sessions for adults. I also work remotely via Skype. My practice is supervised and I adhere to the Code of Ethics and Deontology of the Belgian Society of Gestalt.
